Hi

Using Word 97 (from Office 97).

My wife is copying footnote references from one document to paste in the
text of another Word document. The pasted text appears formatted as
"Footnote Reference". Obviously she wishes to change that into "Normal" in
the new document but is having a lot of trouble doing so. She selects the
new pasted text (presently formatted as Footnote Reference), clicks on the
drop down style box, selects "Normal", presses the Enter key, but the pasted
text remains formatted as reference text!

She's tried selecting everything (Ctrl-A), and doing the change style thing,
again with no result. Then suddenly, selecting in different ways, the
change occurs. So it is very frustrating and time consuming.

What is she doing wrong? What is the correct way to effectively change the
style of a pasted text?

Thanks.

Footnote Reference is a character style. Applying a different paragraph
style will not affect it. Selecting the footnote reference and pressing
Ctrl+Spacebar or selecting Default Paragraph Font from the Style list will
remove the character style.
