cannot bypass autologon

I have applied the auto logon feature in xp pro, sp1.
Machine is standalone (not attached to domain)
Cannot bypass autologon by holding down shift key. Have
applied hotfix 826397, but still does not work.
Autologon set up to log on as USER, and cannot get into
machine with ADMIN account.
Help!?!?

Log out, then log in as admin, then go into control panel > users and tell
it what you want it to do.
