cannot burn dvd movies

i cannot burn DVD movies. my computer does not recognize
the burner and tells me i need a DVD burner in order to
burn a DVD, really?. does anybody know why the burner is
not working properly since i am able to burn it under
different formats such as VCD. I am using Roxio software
and windows XP. help
 
Do you really have a DVD burner or do you have a combo drive which is a CD
burner and a DVD PLAYER, not a burner? You can burn a VCD on a CD burner.
You cannot burn a DVD on a CD burner.

no, it is a dvd burner it says so on the outside of the
drive and also on the burner description when it asks me
for the destination when burning a different kind of cd.
i was told that the software needs an upgrade but have not
tried it yet, ill post tomorrow to see what happened.

EZ CD and DVD Creator 6 will burn DVDs. Creator 5 would not but an
upgrade to 5.3 (which I believe is free) will. Media Creator 7 will
also. 5 in its various iterations will run on XP although better with
patches, 6 will run on XP, and 7 requires XP or 2000.
