Cannot browse some XP Pro wsns

Small business network running Small Business Server
2003. Seven XP Pro workstations are in the domain; only 4
show up on NET VIEW or when browsing to the domain under
My Network Places. (There are also Win 2000 and Win NT
wsns in the domain.) I've seen similar problems posted
before, so I'll try to give a bit more detail.

2 of the wsns are nearly identical hardware with
apparently identical installations of XP Pro (including
matching updates). They both have DHCP active. Except
for required differences (IP address, NIC identifier, and
computer name), these 2 wsns give line-for-line identical
output from IPCONFIG /ALL and NETDIAG. But NEST1 shows up
when browsing, and CADD2 doesn't. CADD2 doesn't even show
up in its own browser or NET VIEW list.

Neither computer name had ever been used on the domain
before these 2 wsns were attached. They've both been in
the domain for several days; the one that doesn't show up
has been attached for over a week. Each of them can NET
SEND to the other; a Win 2000 system can NET SEND to both
of them. Other workstations can address them directly by
name (for instance, DIR \\CADD2\C$ works).

NETBT settings in the registry appear to be identical for
these 2 wsns. _Everything_ I've looked at appears to be
identical. I'm stumped.

Any suggestions? TIA!

perhaps, you haven't shared them. what do you get if net view \\computername
(computername is the host name of the computer that doesn't list).

For _all_ of the XP Pro workstations, whether they show up
in the browse list or not, NET VIEW \\computername yields
the message, "There are no entries in the list."

Other than administrative shares, none of them have any
shared resources. So why do some of them show up and
others not?

"There are no entries on the list"

Symptom: when using net view \\remotecomputer command, you may receive
"There are no entries on the list". And you may have a problem to access the
remote computer.

Resolution: 1) If there are no file or print shares on the computer, the net
view command displays a "There are no entries in the list" message. So, make
sure there are file or print shares on the computer. Or to use net share
command to check sharing status.
2) Make sure no firewall running because the firewall may block sharing.
3) Make sure client for ms network is enabled.
