cannot boot xp

hi

turned on pc today and got the error windows cannot load as a file is
missing or corrupt in windows\system??? but doent tell me which file any
ideas to solve problem as i have spent weeks setting up my system!
 
Hi Leanne,

To fix the "windows\system32\config\system file is mising or corrupt" where
Xp wont boot:

Go to Recovery Console and type:

cd system32\config
ren system system.old
ren system.alt systemalt.old
copy c:\windows\repair\system
copy c:\windows\repair\regback\system
exit

hi thanks for your quick response.

i have tried the things you have set out and get no such files when i do the
copy repair windows!
copy c:\windows\repair\system
copy c:\windows\repair\regback\system
cannot find specified dir or files.
