Cannot activate 'Delete' button on toolbar

I cannot delete incoming emails after reading. The delete button does not
respond. Right click and select delete from options not responding either.
Only method at present is to create a dummy file and then delete whole folder.

Can someone tell how to reverse whatever I did ?
 
Where are the items located when you're trying to delete them? In the Inbox
or a virtual folder (like Unread Messages). Not that it should matter...

What version of Outlook are you using? Also, is this something new or did it
happen possibly after you installed something?
