Hi all,

I have a computer that is unable to access the web. I can ping things like
www.micorsoft.com and it resolves correctly and returns responses, but when
I try to surf the web everything comes up "Page cannot be displayed". So
this does not appear to be a DNS issue. I noticed that it immediately
begins trying the search "Trying to find http://www.www.microsoft.com.com"
etc. and this is regardless of whether or not I type in www.microsoft.com or
microsoft.com or microsoft in the address bar. I tried installing Firefox
and with about the same results there. Does anyone have any suggestions as
to what do to next? I'm looking at the recovery disk right now, and that is
an option if this cannot be fixed.

Thanks

Your recovery disk will not be of any help. You should contact a tech rep of
your ISP (Internet Service Provider) for a resolve.

This connection is over dial up, and another computer in the house can
connect consistently without any problems. I was even connected at the same
time (on both) and saw no issues on the one computer and the issue in the
original post on the other. This problem happens regardless of whether I'm
connected at the office or at home over dial up. So it appears to be an
issue with this computer specifically.
