Hello,
1) The problem:
I recently installed a new hard drive as my primary hard drive (i.e.,
the "Windows scratch" drive) and made my previous primary hard drive my
secondary hard drive. Everything worked fine and all my data seems to be
intact and accessible with one major exception, namely, the data contained in
the "My Documents" directory.
2) A complication: (relevance will become clear after reading #3)
Due to loss of data, I cannot boot Windows using only this disk (the
now secondary disk) without reformatting, and I do not know how to reformat
without losing all data.
3) A potential explanation:
I'm guessing that the reason I can't access the "My Documents"
directory is related to the fact that I am the computer's "administrator" and
now that the original "My Documents" is on a secondary drive, I am no longer
being recognized as an "administrator," so I no longer have "permission" to
access the directory.
4) The question:
How can I retrieve the information contained in the "My Documents"
directory? I have important and time-sensitive information in this directory
(including work that I was going to submit as part of my graduate school
application -- I could attempt to reduplicate, but it would be MUCH better if
I could retrieve it) that is not backed-up elsewhere (there must be a lesson
here somewhere! ;D), so it's imperative that I do this soon. Unfortunately,
I do not have the $ to go to a professional data recovery business, so I'll
need to recover it myself if possible. It seems there has got to be some
simple way to access this information, but I have no idea how.
Thanks in advance for any and all replies!
