hello

my mate cannot access any internet sites

i have deleted all cookies, offline content etc. i have
done a spyware / malaware scan, deleted all the found
items. i have reset web settings and have done everythign
i can think of.
i.e is not set to work offline either.

also, have downlaoded all updates off windows update.

can you suggest anything?

thanks, chris

Trying, on a command prompt box, to "ping" to an internet site to check
if the network works, e.g.

ping www.yahoo.com

and see if if you get a response. If no ... then the network. Also can
try to ping yahoo's IP address to check DNS, e.g.

ping 216.109.118.68

If pinging works, then can conclude network ok. Then, it must be
something with IE. Something changed. You've thought of spyware and
viruses, I guess (the normal thing that changes to break things) ...
hummmm. Cookies shouldn't have anything to do with it. Temp folder full?

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

First make sure all the physical connections between your wall and the
computer are intact.

Then write back telling what kind of internet connection you have and
at what point in the connection process things start going differently
from what you expect.

You can also call in and make sure your internet account is in good
standing.

Thanks for the help, i will pass on the information to
him, one thing, i havent actualyl checked for viruses,
because, well he doesnt have an antivirus installed, and
cannot access free online ones, e.g active scan from
panda.

i have sent other people avg antivirus, but when opened,
it completely messed up the system because of a virus on
there, and would have to reinstall windows. i do not
want to do this

do you have any suggestions if this does not work?

thanks you lots and lots

chris

when i load up internet explorer to go to webpage, it
wont go straight to my home page, but just say it cant
find the site.

Hi,

Call your ISP and check your DNS settings.
You can find them right-clicking your connection, choosing properties
Network tab, selecting TCP/IP and clicking properties.

Good luck
