How do I cancel 'read only' attribute in XP, while copying music/jpg files to
CD ROM whilst using Windows XP media centre.

Files copied to a CD will always be "Read Only".

The "RO" in "CDROM" stands for "read-only." It's the nature of
the beast and you can't change it.

You don't. It is using CD-R methods and the files are inherently read
only
