cancel editing mode in Office Powerpoint so I can edit chat data

When clicking on a chart so I can edit the data, I get an error message that
reads cancel editing mode or close all dialog boxes (non open) ? Powerpoint
2007
 
Try closing all programs (all you see, anyway) and then rebooting. Does that
do the trick?
