can windows 98 be replaced with windows xp and how?

Currently i have windows 98 and bought the new windows xp.
The only problem is...im not sure how to install windows
xp...if i already have 98! could my computer be completely
screwd up or what?! ive been debating for over a month
now...and i really want windows xp...and my old files...is
this possible! thnks!

Hello!
you may either run XP over the exsisting windows 98;which
will simply upgrade to XP or you may go for a clean
installation by formatting the exsisting HD.I prefer clean
installation.

First make sure your machine is adequate - a Win98 machine is likely to
have nowhere near enough RAM. You need more than 128MB, preferably 256
MB, together with a reasonably fast cpu. Then Read Gary Woodruff's
