Can Wilbur be made to not show contents of folders, i.e., remove default recursive indexing?

My hdd is still the same size, it's just I'm maximizing it more and
now folders to index are getting to unwieldly to manage manually.
Wilbur seems good but I've run into difficulty that it indexes
_everything_ while it's only some folders that need this and often
none of the subfolders are needed.

Thanks for any help. I'm on a free newsserver and hoping it holds up.
Stoopid Rogers got rid of usenet access. Cheers! :oD

If you want to index just file names (and not file content), Locate32
will do what you want.

I have not used Wilbur in a long time. At the time I used it Wilbur had
its own support group. This support group had a link on the Wilbur
site. that group would probably be the best support you will find for
wilbur.

Have you tried the Wilbur web site?

When I used Wilbur they had a Wilbur group with a link tied to the web
site. If this group still exists I think it would be the best place to
ask for help with Wilbur.

This is neat. Looks a lot like my Win98SE "find files". Can't figure
out how to exclude recursive folders either, though. Unlike Win98SE,
there is no box to untick that says "include subfolders". Also, it's
a search utility, not really an indexer. But thanks so much. I'm
keeping this one.

I'll be looking for something like Wilbur to index folders more
automatically than an html folder indexer.

Thanks! :oD

It IS an indexer. If you go to Options->Settings and click the
'Database' tab you will find that you can specify options to create a
database of folders that you want to index.

The next time you perform a search on an indexed folder, it will use
this indexed database rather than doing an actual search on your hard
disk, and return the results instantly.

Also, a command-line utility named 'Updtdb32.exe' that allows to
automate the indexing process via a scheduler, is bundled along with the
installer.

Unfortunately, the feature that you are looking for - exclude subfolders
- is not available when you add a folder for indexing. However, a
feature called 'Exclude Directories' is present using which you can
specify a list of subfolders under the root folder, that you want to
exclude from being indexed.

As I have already previously mentioned, the main difference between this
program and Wilbur is that Wilbur can also index file *content*, while
Locate 32 only indexes file names.

Copernic Desktop Search. I use it exactly for this as I don"t want all
my settings folders indexed too.
And there are no privacy issues. This was the main reason when I started it.
I's rapid, integrates a preview, previews OpenOffice files, too.
