I have just tried to install a ide pci card to my pc to drive a hard to be
used for storage ony. After installing all drivers and confirming drivers
installed correctly my pc gets to the windows screen during boot and then
screen goes blank. I have tried reinstalling drivers and checked for driver
and bios updates but none available. I have also checked boot priorities and
it doesn't appear to be trying to boot from new card, or should I say the
boot order looks correct. I am running XP Home on a maxtor 160gb hard drive
all through an ASRock K7VM4 board with AMD 2400+ cpu. Please help, I really
want to get rid of my Icy Box caddy!!!!!

Just tried different pci slot and still have same problem. The hard drive I
am trying to run has data on it, do you think this would affect it??

Check the settings in the BIOS.
Boot device priority
FDD0
CDROM
HDD0

Hard disk boot priority
1-CH2 S_ATA1XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
2-Bootable add in cards

The syntax may be a little different from main board to main board.
Some of these bootable add in cards will place themselves first in
the hard disk boot priority.

I'll have a look thanks

Had a look at boot priorities etc all seems ok, no mention of add in cards.
In boot menu the card shows. I have selected my main hd as first boot device
but still it all goes tits up when windows starts. Maybe I will stick with
the icy box and save all the aggro

That is the only problem that I had with my PCI SATA controller. (I use strictly Intel)
Google around on the ASRock K7VM4, you might run across something.
good luck
