I came up with a possible solution to my previous question today about
protecting the first row - that is to put the data from the first row into a
header - but - can I protect the header?

Hi Carole,
you can protect the headers protecting locking the rows but you will not be
able to filter the information, still with the protection there are several
products in the market that can easily break the paswword

I don't think so.

The best I've been able to do is to have an event macro that runs before a print
(or print preview) that changes the print header to what I want.

And if macros (or events) are disabled, then this doesn't work, either.

Assuming you mean like header from headers and footers.

No

But you could run a beforesave or beforeprint event that placed the data
into the header.

Users would have to enable macros for that to run.

Do you want to go that route?

Would also involve a contingency plan for when users disabled macros on
opening the workbook.

From your first post I get you are trying to prevent other branches from
using your Template.

Why would that be?

Wow! I got the big guns answering me! Thanks! Gord - it was easier to say
'branches' in my e-mail. What I have designed is a template for churches to
use to track members and pasotrs, and I put the church name on the top row.
I have started a business of selling the templates to these churches. I
don't want to sell one template to one church and have them share with other
churches instead of buying their own template from me. (I know I should be
more trusting!) Any other ideas?

I don't do work for hire or build programs for sale so am poorly suited to
address this problem of making sure proprietary work cannot be copied for
distibution.

There are some in these groups that do so.

Perhaps one or more will jump in with some tips.

I decided to trust the good Lord and unprotected everything! But - I am
still curious if what I'm asking for is possible.
