If you've forgotten your password, you'll have to ask your email provider
to change it for you. Since you'll both then know the new password, you
should then change it yourself.

I haven't found a way to make Windows Mail display what password
it has stored for an email account.

Some email servers require that you enter your username with no spaces
and no CAPITAL LETTERS. Some require that you follow it with the
part of your email address that starts with @, and some require that you
don't. Many require that you be careful about which letters of your
password are CAPITAL and which are lowercase. Many give rather
vague error messages if they find anything at all wrong with your
username and/or password, in order to avoid helping anyone trying to
guess usernames and passwords.

Also, Windows Mail has a quirk that often makes it forget the password
if you click Apply in the same session where you add a checkmark before
Remember password, but won't remember any changes you make to the
password if you don't then click Apply in the same session.

To correct this, start, Windows Mail, then click Tools, then Accounts,
then your email account, then Properties, then Servers. If there's no
checkmark in the box before Remember password, click on this box,
then OK, then Close, then shut down Windows Mail and start over.
If there is a checkmark there, leave it alone and go on. If there's
any problem with the username, click at the end of it, then backspace
over the problem, then type the correction. Assume that the password
has been lost, so click at the end of the dots for the password, backspace
over them, then type the correct password, then click Apply, then OK,
then Close.

If that doesn't help, you may have a problem caused by interference
from an antivirus program. What if any antivirus programs do you have,
and have you ever had a Norton or McAfee antivirus program on that
computer, even one of the free trial versions that often come already
installed on new computers?
