I have a small peer to peer LAN with a LinkSys hub. I am
adding a third computer. The 2 computers can be seen in
the workgroup which is AZTECH and share resources back and
forth. I have checked the workgroup name and re-entered it
several times. The new computer can not see the others and
can not even see itself in the workgroup. The computer in
question is running XP Home, has a 3com Fast Ethernet NIC,
and I have installed Client for Microsoft networks, File
and Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks, QoS Packet
Scheduler, TCP/IP, and I added Netbeui when this did not
work on the LAN. I have completely removed the Windows
Networking and re-installed them. I have swapped the
cables and the ports and the original computers continue
to work but not the new one. All computers can access the
internet and ping each other through the TCP/IP protocol.
But I can not see nor share resources from or to the new
computer over the LAN. I ran IPCOMFIG /ALL on the new
computer and one that works. See below:

This is the new computer:

Ron,

Well the good news is that John IS getting a DHCP address, so the
physical network is working. But you have NBT disabled. What OS are
the other computers - are they running Netbeui?

Can John and Bill ping each other by name? By ip address?

1) Remove Netbeui.
2) Enable NBT on the 3Com.
3) "route print >c:\route.txt" then copy and paste c:\route.txt into
your next post.

Cheers,
Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.

Chuck what is NBT? And how is it enabled?
Ron

Ron,

NBT is NetBIOS over TCPIP. That is the default protocol for File
Sharing for WinNT/2K/XP, and for Win98/ME (I'm not sure about 95).

If the majority of your systems fall in that category, NBT is the
protocol you should use. The best way I know of to activate it is to
un install NetBEUI, Client For Microsoft Networks, and File and
Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks. Then re install the latter
two.

If you are successful, your ipconfig should not contain "NetBIOS over
Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Disabled".

Cheers,
Chuck
