Windows XP Pro on Both Computers on Home Network with Linkysys Router.
Firewalls all unistalled and off. Simple File Sharing on Both computers.
Both computers have the exact workgroup name. Only the laptop can access the
desktop PC that has a shared folder I set.

The Tower PC cannot access the shared folder I set up on my laptop.
Situation was worse, that neither could access each other even though seeing
each other in work groups. I perform all my file transfers and back ups
through my network. Please help!! Thanks Mark

Mark,

One of the most common causes of this problem would be a misconfigured or
overlooked personal firewall, but there are other possibilities too. What
antivirus product do you use? What complete and exact error message do you see?

If no help yet, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each
computer, so we can diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked
articles, and follow instructions precisely:

Nothing interesting yet. Both computers are on the same subnet, and have
compatible name resolution.

Go thru my articles, line by line. Or we could look at browstat (per my
instructions above).

And, be aware of the limitations of Simple File Sharing, and Guest
authentication.

I am also a very advanced computer user. Seeking some other expert advice.
This seems to be a huge huge huge issue that Microsoft should address.
Google the access denied error and there is talk all over the place.
Somebody needs to fix this mess. Please send anymore suggestions.

Thanks Mark Mark

Dude, we'll work with you on your problem, but you need to help us to help you.
There are lots of possible reasons for "Access Denied". If you want to wait for
Microsoft, fine. Or we can try and help you now.

Chuck appreciate your help, just frustrating trying to back file for my real
estate firm etc. Just always something with Windows. Was working fine, and
then shazam.......Just frustrated. I did notice in my LAN settings a AEGIS
Protocol what ever that is?

I understand the feeling, Mark. Hang in there. Patience and persistence.

I just get frustrated when somebody claims there's a major conspiracy by
Microsoft to ignore a widespread problem. You've got computers being sold in
Walmart for heavens sake. Expect a problem or two.

I have run into AEGIS protocol several times. It's a third party WiFi driver,
but I've yet to know why it's necessary. What OS is it running under?
