Can registry be restored from outside of Windows?

So, I should really know better than to do what I did! I messed up the
registry such that I now can't log into Windows. I did back it up first so
have a .reg file. Is there a way to run that .reg file from the DOS prompt
and get the registry back in order.

Thanks for the info... at the moment, can't find my stupid Windows CD. Do
you know if the command "reg import filename.reg" would accomplish getting
the backed up registry file back in place? Just wondering... doing some
investigation before I work on this at home again tonight.

"Bert Kinney" Have you tried using System Restore to put the system back to an earlier date?

Thanks for additional information

| Yes, run System Restore in Safe Mode, or from the Command Prompt.
