About 4 days ago I started having the same problem described in many other
posts. That is, I cannot send emails. Here is the message

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity.

Subject 'test II'
Server: 'smtp.att.yahoo.com'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0F
Protocol: SMTP
Port: 465
Secure(SSL): Yes

Here are the things I've tried to fix the problem and all have failed.

1. Contacted my ISP and verifed the settings were correct. Even deleted and
re-added my account. They also confirmed that there were no issues on their
end.

2. After reading other messages in the community I upgraded to Windows Live
Mail from Windows Mail. My general thought is that this has made things
somewhat worse as now I sometimes have problems receiving mail too.

3. After reading other messages I turned off my anitvirus, firewall, and
spyware software. This too did not change anything. By the way, I use Windows
Live Onecare for all of them.

Please help, my family is getting testy.
Thanks

Your settings are correct.
I take it you are not using any non-Microsoft security software?
If that is the case, the only thing left to try is a temporary uninstall of
OneCare, just to see if it is the culprit.

Note to your testy family: In a pinch you can always send via webmail:
http://mail.yahoo.com .

Hi Gary,

First, I want to thank you for answering my question and say sorry it's
taken me so long to get back with you. Anyway, with your help I am getting
closer to resolution. Here is the latest.

To answer your question... Yes, Microsoft "Windows Live OneCare" is the only
security software I have.

To everyone with similar problems... YES, IT IS THE CULPRIT. As soon as I
uninstall it Windows Live Mail (and Windows Mail) send and receive perfectly.
So this is the root cause.

Now for the problem. Unfortunately, as soon as I re-installed OneCare the
problem came right back. Can you give me some direction on how resolve the
OneCare issue?

I hope this helps others with the same problem

Thanks again for your help

Thanks for reporting back. I now feel more confident in continuing to
offer my advice to uninstall OneCare when this particular error is
encountered. My guess is that a recent update to OneCare caused this
incompatibility to start showing up. Until recently, OneCare was quite
compatible with Windows Mail.
All you can do at this point is replace OneCare with a more
compatible antivirus. Of the free antivirus programs, the ones that are
known to be compatible with Windows Mail are:

AVG free edition:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=aff
and
Avast free edition:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

However, with either of those, during the install phase you must select
'custom' install, and then deselect the email scanning module so it won't install.
