Can Powerpoint be made into a Scoreboard?

What I need to do is set up a scoreboard for a quiz night. In the past I've
just used an Excel spreadsheet and used a projector to display the results to
the participants.

What I'd like is to design a professional looking scoreboard and to have the
results appear like on TV (Like the Eurovision song contest scorboard.. for
us Europeans!)

I'm guessing it may be possible if I was to complete the results on an Excel
spreadsheet and then have the Powerpoint slide pick up data from selected
cells. But how can this be done?

I hope my question makes sense.

This can be automated in PowerPoint using VBA if you have the time to learn
