Please can you help me, I am having the same problem as T Leigh, I also
receive the same error message. I have tried the suggestions in the replies,
but nothing seems to work, I have copied the error message below.

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject 'Re:

Hi Robert,
AOL are my internet provider, i always use Tesco.net for my e-mail address,
i use to have problems with outlook express as well, but i could usually send
e-mails after trying a couple of times hitting the send button. Now i can not
send any mail at all. I have read the info you have sent me but can not see a
solution as yet, i have tried changing port 25 to 587 with no luck. I have
spoken to AOL several times who are unable to help with windows mail. I have
also spoken to Tesco as well and they are also unable to help.

Many thanks again for your reply, any further suggestions?

tesco.net doesn't seem to accept outgoing mail through any port other than
port 25. Connections to port 25 are often blocked if they cross over from
one internet provider's equipment to another's before they reach the server,
to cause problems for spammers.

You may have to set up a mixed connection, where you use your tesco.net
return address and their incoming mail server, but use some other outgoing
mail server that allows using a different port instead. AOL doesn't use
port 25, so their outgoing mail server should be suitable.

Are you using (e-mail address removed) as your email address? AOL will not
let you use their SMTP server unless you are sending from a @aol.com
email address.

I am not aware of any workaround as long as you continue to use AOL's
SMTP server. Since you are paying AOL for ISP service, give them a call.

The other option is to get a free Gmail account, configure it for POP or IMAP
service, then use their SMTP server. Gmail lets you use any email address
as long as you register it with them first.

That should be smtp.aol.com, not smpt.aol.com. Also, use port 587
with AOL (not 25). Make sure "My server requires authentication" is
checked on the Servers tab, then click the associated 'Settings', then
'Log on using' and enter your AOL credentials.
