I have 2 machines that can not see my file server (Dell file server running
W2000 Server). Over 50 other machines can connect just fine. These two
just stopped being able to see it. 1 is XP. The owner can access his
files, but other file folders are empty any he only sees a few of them. The
other client is W2000 workstation and can not even see the server. Both
have all patches. Tried rebooting safe mode with no luck. Thoughts or
solutions?

Thanks!

"Cannot see my file server" sounds a little vague. I suggest you
run this command from a Command Prompt on a problem PC
and report verbatim what you see on the screen. You should
also state if your workstations run in Workgroup or in Domain
mode.

net use S: \\YourServer\SomeShare

Sorry, Domain with 2 W2000 DCs, 1 W2003 DC. One computer can map a drive,
can see a handful of folders in the mapped drive, but not all of them, and
of those he can see only 1 contains files. (I confirmed file permissions
are not an issue). The other computer can not ping, can not net view, can
not net share. Both computers can access any other server or computer on
the network.

If anyone needs additional info from any commandline tools, please let me
know. If you know of particular tools that can help me diagnose this,
please let me know.

Thanks!
Doug

If your problem PCs cannot ping the server then your first
trouble shooting step is to run ipconfig /all on the problem
PCs and on the server so that you can check your IP
settings. You must also turn off any PC-based firewall
during testing. Have you consulted your network administrator
about this issue?
