I am running Small Business Server 2000.
Once I tried to install as a stand-along MS Outlook 2002, but could not
make it run.
Then at the top of that I installed MS Outlook with is included in MS Office
2000 and it's run OK.

But I have the phantom original MS Outlook 2002.

When I tried to remove it using Control Pannel->Add/Remove Programs I
received an error message:

"This installation package could not be open. Contact the application
vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package".

I tried almost all possible "tricks" but all of them failed.
Would very appriciate for any suggestions.
Thank you

Without doing a lot of research or hunting around, my first guess would
be to:

- Uninstall the Outlook 2000 component from MS Office 2000.
- Reinstall the stand-alone Outlook 2002.
- Uninstall the stand-alone Outlook 2002.
- Install the Outlook 2000 component for MS Office 2000.

Obviously it behooves you to save your data files elsewhere before doing
this. Microsoft's support site has KB articles on how to backup your
Outlook data files.

Thank you for your suggestion.

I already followed this path and it did not sove the problem. I removed
whole MS Office 2000, then I tried to reinstall Outtlook 2002. However
during installation win2k generated an error message and did not allowe me
to reinstall Outlook 2002. (I don't remember the error msg).

1. Is there a "dirty" method to by pass "Add/Remove Programs" manager and
remove the installation directly?

2. How can I remove the entry from the list of installed programs in the
"Add/Remove Programs" manager?

3.Somebody suggested me that I have a faulty "Outlook 2002" cd-rom - can
that be a problem?

Thank you for your feedbacks

You did not mention your version of Windows, so pick from the following:

However, trying to cleanup the registry from a separate OL2002 install
when you have mixed in with an SBS2000 install might result in SBS2000
not working. You might get stuck with having to uninstall SBS2000, do
the cleanup, and reinstall SBS2000. If the OL2002 install is still
listed in Add/Remove Programs, you can edit the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
registry key to delete the entry for OL2002 so it isn't listed anymore.

For future reference, unless you want to run a different version
separately of the other components in the Office suite, make sure you
keep the versions the same. For example, you cannot use Word as the
e-mail editor for Outlook unless their versions match.
