I am running this laptop with W XP Home Edition. I have just received
an external hard drive and thought I would use it to backup my internal
hard drive. When I go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System
Tools I do not see Backup there. This laptop was purchased about the
same time as our desktop yet I was able to find Backup on the desktop.
Can anyone help me resolve this.
Thanks for any and all help.

The Windows Backup program is not installed by default in
Windows XP Home Edition.
Take a look here for how to install it from your installation
CD.

HOW TO: Install Backup from the CD-ROM in Windows XP Home
Edition

If your computer did not come with an XP Home installation CD,
you can download ntbackup.msi here.

While the Windows Backup program does an acceptable job backing
up selected files and folders, you might want to consider using
an imaging program such as Acronis True Image or Norton Ghost
if you're planning on backing up the entire contents of your
laptop's hard drive.

Good luck

Unfortunately I do not have aa Windows CD. I can't remember if one was
delivered with the laptop or if we have lost it. Any Suggestions? Is it
possible to download Backup from somewhere?
Once again Thanks.

Buy a third-party backup/imaging program.

Acronis True Image seems to be the preferred choice these days.
