Can not download .exe files

Ok, I suddenly am unable to download .exe files and media
files such as .mp3s, etc. using the standard right-
click, "save target as" method.
Everything works fine until after I select a location to
save the file to and then the download window pops up,
but makes no progress whatsoever.. it's just stuck in
perpetual motion.. left-clicking on the target is not
working either, as soon as I do that I suddenly receive
an IE error and the explorer window closes.

On a related note, I'm having no problems saving
pictures.. I've also tried saving real audio files and
surprisingly, I'm able to save those to my hard drive as
well. Any help is appreciated.

Here is a fix that I have not tested as I use Win98 and this is for WinXP
(You dont say which OS you have), so make sure your registry is backed up
first.

I dont know if this is what the fix above does anyway, but:
Verify this, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ Internet
Explorer\Download
And make sure that CheckExeSignitures, Data Value is set to no.

If none of those work, have you tried disabling your AV and then trying an
..exe download? More often than not, a running AV program is the culprit
according to some forums as they can block exe files. Quite what you do next
I am unsure. (May want to check your firewall for any exe blocks as well).

Are you using a download manager such as Download Accelerator or GetRight?
These can often cause problems as well.

Sorry, out of any more options.

Hope something here helps.
