Can not delete a message with a large attachment

I have stried to send a message with a large attachment - however it now
seems to be stuck and when I try to delete it it tells me I can not as it has
started sending the message.

Posted here almost on a daily basis:

Click File and check Work Offline. Close and then restart Outlook.
Delete the message. Click File and uncheck Work Offline.
