While I already there I click on disk clean up. the computershut off and when I tried to reboot the only message thay comes on the sreen is " <windows root>system hal.dll Under that is "windows will not start the following file missing or corrupt .When I try to restart all that come up is that same message.
when I boot to the bois everything looks ok.I can't get any cd drives to work or the floppy drive
would you please try to help me get things back to working.
Thanks for your help Ray

The BIOS setting at this point really is only boot prefrences,or boot order
you need to set that to,cdrom 1st,or cdrw with xp cd in it.Then restart computer
boot to xp cd,recovery,press enter for password,then type:CHKDSK C: /
When its thru type:EXIT If xp still doesnt start, you can/might need to reboo
to xp cd,install xp,repair current copy.Youll loose all updates, and the repair shoul
work. XP doesnt control boot order (hd,cdrom, floppy),there's no reason you can
boot to cd,pressing, esc or F8 can bring up menu, mfg web site for info, try tapping esc
on start up.
