I have posted this question before and had no responses :(

Once I have used my dial-up connection to log into my
service provider or my company network my system from
then on takes forever to launch a program or to open a
folder (can take up to a minute).
When I disconnect the problem remains until I reboot.

I am using a laptop with xp pro. All windows updates have
been performed.
I have run ad-aware, anti virus software, spybot etc. I
have defraged hard drive and cleaned up the regestry.
Running programs are minimal and I see nothing unusual.

Any help would be appriciated.

Try to defrag your computer.

Try to delete the connection and recreate the connection.

try to uninstall the modem drivers and reinstall the same.

It sounds like maybe your anti-virus fires up when you
dial-up / network-connect and perhaps has some
compatibility issues? Try a fresh uninstallation /
installation of your anti-virus.

Nope, no go.
Have performed defrag, uninstalled and reinstalled
drivers and re-created connection to no avail :(

Sounds like your modem isn't being detected properly.
Uninstall the modem drivers from the device manager. Reboot.
shut down - do not try to reinstall, even if the detect box
starts up.

Physically remove the modem and reboot again. then reinsert
the modem after shutdown and start the system from power
off. Note what the detection wizard does. Does it prompt for
the driver disc (software)? If so, write down the inf file
called for, then insert the CD or floppy, but exit from the
wizard and let windows finish loading. Open the wizard after
the load from the system control panel/devices manager. You
do this by dcing on the device entry in the device manager.
Then go to the second tab and select 'install drivers'
(update drivers) then browse to the cd entry and look for
the appropriate entry (most of the time its in windows
folder on the cd). Once found Double-Click on the inf, then
ok (you may need to do this up to 4 times). When the install
confirmation is noted, close wizard & control panel and
restart. Then check if the modem shares resources with other
cards or devices. You can either use sysinfo or the device
manager itself.
