Can MS Access do this?

I am looking into some possible ideas to get rid of a lot of paperwork for a
volunteer organisation I work for.

Basically, at the end of every month, each volunteer must hand in their
expense claims along with their monthly performance (hours worked etc...)
This is all currently done on paper.

Now, what would be ideal is for all of this to be done on a network-based
Database. So basically, each individual has restricted access to the
database and can enter their expenses and performance details and then this
can be authorised by a line manage (not too sure how you can electronically
sign off expenses). Then add the end of a month, the boss can simply print
out everybody's claims.

Is this possible to create in MS Access? It will be network-based and there
will need to be different levels of access (ie. restricted access for
individuals, semi-restricted access for line managers and complete access
for boss)

Yes.

The spammers and script-kiddies have succeeded in making it impossible for
me to use a real e-mail address in public newsgroups. E-mail replies to
this post will be deleted without being read. Any e-mail claiming to be
from brenreyn at indigo dot ie that is not digitally signed by me with a
GlobalSign digital certificate is a forgery and should be deleted without
being read. Follow-up questions should in general be posted to the
newsgroup, but if you have a good reason to send me e-mail, you'll find
a useable e-mail address at the URL above.

There's an Access security FAQ available at the following URL ...

Yes; it won't be trivial - sounds like a nice project though. Check
out the Security whitepaper mentioned elsethread. Access security is
pretty capable but also quite complex; it's not hard to set up a
database that appears to be secure but isn't, or even to secure it so
well that nobody at all can get into it!

John,

Did you mean to say it won't be trivial to set up such a database?

It's more than an afternoon's work, for certain. You're asking for
quite a few features, some of them rather advanced.

Don't get me wrong - it's a very reasonable project, and Access is
quite capable of handling it. But if you're expecting to do it
yourself in a day or two, or getting it for a couple of hundred
dollars from a paid consultant, you may be overoptimistic!
