I would like to use wildcard characters in a rule that says "* OOO*" such
that any subject that contained the characters "OOO" would have the rule
applied. Since this doesn't work, is there another way to accomplish the same
result?

thanx,

jj

you can't use wildcards with rules. It should look for partial words - so
ooo will find all words with ooo in them.

is it case sensitive? and leading or following spaces don't matter?

I don't believe it's case sensitive, but test it to be sure. Spaces before
or after may affect it - if you want to find "oooh-no" but not "poooh" then
I think you need to use " ooo" - it's been so long (that was back about
ol2000, when I discovered rules are lousy as a spam filter) since I worked
with rules that I forget exactly what works and what doesn't... and updates
or new versions may affect how rules work.

The easiest way to test is by applying flags or importance to messages if
the condition is met and run the rule on the folder. You can also move the
messages to a test folder and move them back to the inbox (I prefer this
because I can easily see that it worked or didn't). Don't set it to delete
until you are sure it's working as expected!
