I have two computers connected to each other via 1394. There is no need for
authentication or security since I'm the only user. Is there a way to turn
off authentication to speed up the network? I use it to transfer video files
betwen the PCs (10GB file or larger).

Please reply to this message in the news group (not by E-mail) with
more information to help other people understand your question.

What do you mean by "authentication" and "security"? What exactly do
you see that you want to turn off? How do you know that it slows down
networking?

What version of Windows does each computer run? If it's Windows XP
Professional, is simple file sharing enabled or disabled?

Hi Peter,

Thank you for posting here.

I'm sorry but I have the same questions as Steve. Because based on my
experience, I don't think there is any authentication can obviously slow
down your network speed. So please let me know following information:

1. What's the exact OS on your PC(Windows XP Pro or Home? With SP1 or SP2?)
2. Which security or authentication have you turned on? Or we can say what
authentication or security did you mean? You may send me screen shot to
show your concern:
To take a screen shot:
---------------------
1) Press the Pr Scrn key once on the keyboard when the error message
appears.
2) Click Start, go to Run, enter MSPAINT in the open dialog box, and then
Click OK.
3) Use Ctrl + V to paste the screenshot to the canvas.
4) From the File menu, go to Save and save it as a JPG file.
5) Send the JPG file to me as an attachment.
My mailbox: (e-mail address removed)

3. If the OS in your PC is Windows XP Professional, please check the
"simple file sharing" enabled or disabled.
1) Open "My Computer"
2) Click "Tools->Folder Options->View"
3) You will see "use simple file sharing" at the bottom, please enable it.

Please let me know the above information so that we can narrow down your
issue effectively.

Best regards,

Vincent Xu
