Can I revert to a previously saved version of a word document?

I accidently saved a blank version of my personal address list which had a
TON of information... yes, I'm an idiot. I didn't realize until I had closed
out of the program, so it was too late to Undo. I have tried a system restore
to a few hours previous to the erronious save, but that did not work.
Yes, I do have a hard copy saved to disc, but that disc has become stuck in
my disc drive and will not read- it just keeps getting better and better
doesn't it?? So while we're at it, any hints on how to un-jam the disc drive
would also be appreciated.

It is text so there is a high chance that you can restore it by using Undelete
programs. There are many available (Just google). I restored many files using free
PC Inspector File Recovery :

Note : Stop using that partition (or hard disk). If it is a windows partition or
your pagefile is there then stop using that hard disk immediately
 
Word has the option to make backups
automatically, if the option was enabled.
But there is also a temporary backup made
while editing the file and sometimes it remains
in the folder.

you need to explore that
location and ensure the option to read hidden
and system files is enabled. You may find
hardcoded files with the bak extension and
possibly those temp files hiddened as ~.bak

if neither is avail. then you shouldd get your
cd functioning. maybe safemode will give
you some access to it. Or you may have
to use someone else's pc.

You could try a file recovery utility to see if the file can be located on
the drive. You need to stop using the computer now until you try the file
recovery. This might not work though if the file has been overwritten.

Backups should always be duplicated using at two different backup media, ie
floppy and CD, CD and DVD, USB thumb drive, External USB hard drive.
Besides mechanical issues Floppies are not very reliable.
