Hi guys,

I have a folder that saved all the install files for SP2 in
C:WINDOWS/SERVICEPACKFILES/i386. It is about 500 megs. Can I remove that
folder if I don't intend to remove SP2?

Mike

Hi,

No, the only thing you should remove is the $NtServicePackUninstall$
directory.

Those files are needed in case any system files get corrupted or
deleted, so don't delete them. The uninstall files are kept in an
uninstall directory and can be deleted.

No. It contains the service pack file versions for use in preference to
ones from the original CD if needed by File Protection/SFC/New Hardware
etc. On an NTFS drive a useful amount of space can be saved by
compressing it. What you can do if you have a CD burner is burn the
complete folder to a CD, then run regedit.exe and at

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup

Change the values of ServicePackSourcePath and ServicePackCachePath in
the right pane to reflect the drive. Best if you have 2 drives, and can
have the original SourcePath on one and this on the other

What you can delete: See Tidying up section in Installing SP2:
