while surfing yesterday, I started getting a "C:/WINDOWS/dlm.html" bar pop up at the bottom of the screen. I thought some rogue site was trying to infect me with something. So, I went into my Windows files and delted "dlm" and "dlm.html". NOW every once in awhile when surfing, I'll get the critical stop sound with a message "Cannot find 'file:///C:/Windows/dlm.html" and a new browser window pops up. The files I deleted said they were created yesterday, so I didn't think they were required files, but I obviously did a no-no. I hate to see this happen because I JUST got Windows XP installed, and obviously...........I'm no techie. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Hi Matt,

I don't have those files, they were probably malware. Try doing a scan
with ad-aware and spybot to see if they fix the problem.

More info about parasites:
http://www.aumha.org/a/parasite.htm

Download the utility CWshredder:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip

Unzip - close *all* instances of IE & OE, hit the executable and
follow
the prompts.

You can also download Hijack This from here:

http://www.mjc1.com/files/merijn/hijackthis.exe

Go here:
http://mjc1.com/mirror/hjt/

For instructions on how to use it; you have to post the log it
produces

so experts tell you what is good and what is malware

Try downloading, installing and updating the
spyware removers from the links below. Run both of them.

Ad-aware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/

Spybot S&D
http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?lang=en&page=download

If these don't correct the problem, then get yourself a copy of

BHODemon, available at
http://www.definitivesolutions.com/bhodemon.htm .

It does not need installing - simply unzip and run the EXE program. It

is easy to use. It will find the hijackware DLL files, and give you

the ability to disable them.

Hope this helps.

I suspect that you have some sort of advertising spyware on your
computer. Go to http://aumha.org/a/noads.htm and do a quick check of
your machine.

The first step in cleaning up spyware is CoolWebShredder from
http://www.aumha.org/downloads/cwshredder.zip That is specific to
one particular spyware app (CoolWebSearch) but it is one of the most
noxious and can be very hard to get rid of with other tools. So do
this one first.

Next download, install, update and run AdAware (free) from
www.lavasoft.de to do a more general cleanup of other spyware on your
machine.

Good luck
