Can I re enter my windows key without re installing?

I am unable to get the updates and I don't want to re install windows.

Oh, come on! If it's not possible to have a reason that isn't breaking
the law, then just tell him he shouldn't do that!

Otherwise, it's possible the man had honest intentions, and ended up
being embarrassed!

I had no idea why he wanted to do it.
I couldn't think of a scenario for doing so. Now I can.
