Can I protect the formulas in a Worksheet but allow data inputting

  • Thread starter Thread starter protect formulas

Under cell format, protection, uncheck the box marked "locked" for the cells
you want users to be able to input data into.

You can lock all the cells that should be "protected" -- include other stuff
(headers/instructions/etc) that you don't want touched.

And you can unlock all the cells that the user can change.

Then protect the worksheet.

Select the cells to lock or unlock
Format|cells|protection tab (xl2003 menus)
and check Lock (or uncheck it)

You can protect the sheet by:
tools|Protection|protect sheet
(and give it a nice password)

Be aware that there are many things that can't be done on a protected
worksheet. You'll want to check to see if that's a problem for you.

And this worksheet protection is easily broken. Don't expect it to stop anyone
who really wants to break into your worksheet.
