Can I or Can I not share a contacts db?

We've recently upgraded (?) to MS SBS 2003 which includes Outlook and
Exchange. We've installed our server and now host our own web page and
email. One of thethings I thought we could do with this is to have a common
contacts list that all users within the firewall could view. The only common
addresses I see are those belonging to the users created within our
network.Is there a way to share an expanded list to include our customer
base?

So how do I create a Public Folder Contact List? Is this done from admin on
the server or can I do it from my desktop?
 
Within Outlook, go to the Folder List, scroll down and expand Public Folders
|| Right Click All Public Folders and select New Folder || give it a name
and make sure the Folder type is of "Contacts". To make it appear in your
address book then go into it Properties and select Outlook Address Book and
enable as email address book. Once created you can use ESM to control
wholesale permissions (or through Outlook in the normal way).
 
Took me a while to dig out the public folder. It was not showing up in the
folder list until I went through the "Go" "Folders" menu.
OK, now that I've got that created is there a way to import the data from a
CSV file. I've gone thru the "file" "import" routine but don't have an
option to target this public folder with the import.

Any ideas??

Create a new Contact folder in your mailbox and import to that then drag and
drop to the PF, tip changing the view to a table type i.e. categories makes
it easier to select and drag
 
OK, two more things and I think I'm done.

1. Where does te public folder exist? On the exchange server of my desktop
box?
2. You mentioned using ESM or 'the normal way' to set up permissions. I'm
guessing the reason I can't view the public folder I've created from any
other station on our network has something to do with this. What is ESM or
can you give more definition to 'the normal way'?

The Public Folder exists on the Exchange Server (typically unless you have
moved the databases), the database are called pub1.edb and pub1.stm and you
can find the location by going into ESM (Exchange System Manager) from the
Programs || in ESM || Expand Servers || Expand First Storage Group || Right
click and going into the Properties of the Public Folder Store and the
Database tab will show you the location.

To set up permissions you can do it via ESM and expanding Folders (not
Public Folders under First Storage Group) || Expand Public Folders and going
into the Properties of the folder that you want to apply permissions to and
then selecting the appropriate button,

The other way is through Outlook itself by right clicking the Folder and
choosing Properties and Permissions and using the Add button.

If you are using Outlook 2003 you need to select the Folder List on the
Wunderbar (the navigation pane).
 
When I go to set up permissions via ESM, I expand Folders. When I click on
the plus sign next to Public Folders I get an error dialog, "The operation
failed due to an invalid format in the HTTP request. Verify that the host
header is correct for the virtual server. - ID no:c1030af0 - Exchange System
Manager" with OK as the only option. I cannot see any public folders after
this in ESM.

When I go thru Outlook (2003) I can get to properties and the only ref I see
to permissions is on the summary tab but they cannot be modified.

Any ideas???
