Hi,

I have a Thinkpad running Windows 2000 NT and wopuld like
to turn it from a work/networked computer to a Home
computer.

Would installing XP Home do the trcik? Would it save me
some memory space? Can I install XP Home or can I only
upgrade to XP professional?

I have about 1 GB free hard rive space.

Separate question in case you know it... are there ways to
upgrade my IBM 600X Thinkpad as fas as Hard Drive space?

Thanks,

Ben

Don't do that. Upgrade with WinXP Pro Upgrd.

Some ways to reduce space taken up by Windows XP:

1. Turn off Hibernation - when enabled it creates a file on harddrive the
size of your RAM.
2. Turn off system restore - sometimes it creates numerous restore point
files.
3. Reduce size of Pagefile - the pagefile can be hundreds of megabytes ..
4. There are a few Windows components you can uninstall after upgrading. Use
Add/Remove Program's Add/Remove Windows Components e.g. MSN Explorer,
which you probably do not use, takes 13.2 MB .. the games take up 12.1 MB
etc.

Hi,

Win2000 can only upgrade to WinXP Pro.

Win2000 can only be upgraded to XP Pro. To get Home you would need the
full version CD - which costs about the same as the Pro upgrade one.
Home will need as much space, or very nearly, as Pro does, and both will
need quite a bit more than Win2000
