I have added a laptop at home and have set up a wiress network with my
existing desktop. Both have Outlook 2000. I have set up shared files and have
setup the first computer with the Personal Folder (.pst files) within the
shared files. Through windows explorer I can access these files from either
computer now. However I don't know how to change the location my secod
computer looks for this established .pst files. My goal is to access my email
from either computer and have the downloaded messages go into the same .pst
folder in my shared files.
Is this doable?
Thanks

Yes, but is NOT supported by Microsoft, so make sure you backup your pst
file even more regularly than you do now!
On the laptop, with Outlook closed, search for your pst file and move it to
another folder. (Anywhere will do for this purpose). Make sure that Outlook
is CLOSED on the desktop. Then open Outlook on the laptop. It will complain
that it can't find the pst file. Just navigate to the pst file you have set
up in the shared drive. Note you can only have one instance of Outlook
accessing the pst file at any one time.
Another thing to consider is, if you are using Windows XP, is to use Remote
Desktop on the laptop and open Outlook on the desktop in that.

Thanks Gordon. Following your steps I now have both computers accessing the
Personal File Folder on the network shared files. The shared mail folder is
resident on the laptop, and when the laptop is turned off, and I try to opem
the mail folder from the desktop, Outlook complains it can't find the .pst
file, as it should. So far so good.
However when I open the mail on the desktop (with the laptop running) I
don't get the same inbox, outbox, etc folders. In the Folder List on the
desktop computer I have listed two different Outlook Personal Folders,
neither of which is the same as on the laptop. It acts like the shared .pst
file has within it more than one set of Outlook Personal Folders, and I don't
know how to direct the desktop computer to the correct folder. Does anyof
this make sense?
Thanks

As an add on to the last post, I am using Windows XP on both computers. How
do I use Remote Desktop?
