Can I have ONE copy of Office, say, on multi-boot setup?

Hi,
I need to reinstall winXPpro (groan), will be setting up partitions and
boot management for other OS's, ***including Vista*** down the road.

Will I be able to set things up so that my copy-protected software ---
heck, all my apps, ideally --- have only one instance on my system, or,
at the very least, where I won't be seen by, say, MS as trying to run
two copies of Office, even though it would be my purchased official copy
running on just my own computer (same one I registered it on initially)?

I would appreciate any recommendations or thoughts on special details
that would not ordinarily crop up under a routine install.

Many TIA,
SueB

no because when you install an application it puts entries into the
registry, the registry is loaded by the operating system when it boot
up. you can certainly do it with media files and documents etc..
unless you want to run a 2nd computer as a terminal server then your
out of luck.

Yes generally it's possible to install the same program in two different
OS's but have only one installation location. The program has to be
installed in each OS, just point the installation program to the same
location for that app. Though it can be done, I don't like doing it that
way. I install each app to a separate location for each OS. If something
damages the installation files for that program in one OS it can be
problematic in another. Updates are also an issue. And a few programs
might not work in that configuration.

Licensing is a separate issue. You'll need to check the licenses for each
program to see if they allow for multiple installs.

generally you can.
during the install when it asks where to install to, select the same common area from each OS.
it will still insert a log of entries in the registry and probably some COMMON files in the OS partition.
but the majority of the program files will be in the common shared area.

you might consider setting up a separate partition to install the programs to.

It's usually possible to have a 3rd partition for shared
applications, but it would be necessary for such a partition to be
formatted in the common file format (FAT32). The applications would
also have to be installed into each OS (to ensure proper system file
placement and registry updates), one at a time, but the bulk of the
program files could be located on this common partition. I do not,
however, actually recommend doing this as, if you were to uninstall
such an application from one OS, you may not be able to gracefully
uninstall it from the second OS, having already deleted crucial
installation data during the first uninstall action.
