Can I edit the registry to see"My Computer" and drives on desktop?

Two people share a home computer. Each has a profile defined that they log on
to.. When I log on using my id and password, I do not see "My Computer" on
the desktop. When the other person logs on, there is no problem. I see the
drives, my computer on the desktop.

I opened the display properties to try to customize my desktop. But was
unable to do that. Well, "My Computer" was greyed out in the display
properties on my profile. The other does not have such problem. So, I do not
see my drives from my desktop. It is frustrating. Is there anyway I can solve
this by editing the registry?

If you are not a member of the administrator's group, you can't do anything
at all.
If you are intentionally running under a restricted account (e.g.,for
security), log
in as the administrator and set up your account the same way as the other
account that does not have the problem.

If you right-click on the start menu, do you see "Explore" in the menu that
pops
up? That will get you anywhere.
