I want to use a phoneline to call my home PC (running WinXP pro). Can I
then use Remote Desktop client software to control the home PC over the
dialup connection?

I am having a bit of trouble imagining all of this. I see how to create a
dialin connection on the home PC in network connections.

But, I don't see how to tell the Remote Desktop to use the dialup
connection. This may be simpler than it seems to me right now.

Look at the first part of this page that details how to setup XP as a RAS server.

Dial the RAS server telephone number direct from the other box. Once the connection is made start
Remote Desktop and call the remote PC using the top IP address, which is the gateway address,
usually 192.168.x.1
