Can I create text that is conditional on text elsewhere in Word

I am wondering how to create text in one portion of a document that is
dependent on text elsewhere in the document. For example I want to put in my
sentence refer to section 17.2, but during all the editting and changes to
the document the section I am actually wanting to refer to is now numbered
19.2. Is there a way to link text in one place to text in another so that if
it gets changed (manually or automatically) that the text elsewhere gets
changed as well?

Thanks.

Use Insert | Reference | Cross-reference. Cross-references are
actually REF fields, which update when you print or print preview. You
can force an update of all fields at any time: just select the whole
document and press F9.
