Am using Outlook XP (aka Outlook 2002) On WinXP PC. Wanted to experiment
with lots of importing, exporting, etc....but not on my REAL data.

How easy is it to create a standalone test file (extracted from what I have
now), like something named OutlookTEST.pst, open it, experiment, then put it
aside or delete it, especially if it gets corrupted.

I must be doing something wrong, because last time I created and opened a
"secondary" file like this, the main Outlook.pst stayed opened
also...meaning I couldn't close it...and worse it had the same name...all of
that that opens up the risk of damaging the real Outlook.pst data.

By the way, does Outlook always default to opening up Outlook.pst upon
startup?

Thanks

Create a new OutlookTEST.pst file with Outlook and populate it with the
items you want from your mail pst file. Then, shut down Outlook and rename
your original Outlook.pst (or whatever it's called). Restart Outlook.
It'll complain that it can't find your PST and give you a file browse
window. Browse to your new OutlookTEST.pst file and experiment to your
heart's content. When you're finished, reverse the process.
