Can I create a field in a folder based on contents in another?

I would like to take the Subject field and remove all "re:" etc portions off
the Subject line and show that value in the folder in Outlook. That way I can
collate all yahoo group msgs for example together.

Is there a way to do this in Outlook? (I can do it in a competitor's
product, but don't know how in Outlook 2002.)
 
Try the Conversation field.

Thanks for the help; very useful field & I now use it in appropriate
views/folders.

It strips the "Re:" off the front making easier to group emails in the view.
Is there any way of stripping out any other "Re:"-s as well?

These currently get classified as separate conversations. In fact a few
have Re: on the subject (after the Yahoo group name, for example). e.g.
subject intially comes as "[Mozart] I have a question" followed by replies
with ... "Re: [Mozart] I have a question" which Conversation handles
nicely.

However the "[Mozart] Re: I have a question"
or .. "Re: [Mozart] Re: I have a question"
or .. "Re: Re: [Mozart] I have a question"
or (dread the thought but does happen) ... "Re: Re: [Mozart] Re: I have a
question"

These each get classified as separate conversations.
 
Outlook sees the extra re's as new conversations, since it uses the subject,
not a conversation index (although outlook 2003 does much better than older
versions). If the Re is leading, it will remove it, provided it's "Re:
Subject" and not " Re: subject" (notice the leading space).

It looks like the list server is poorly configured... it should remove all
of the Re's in front of the listname when processing it.
