Hello Friends,

After listening to my sister complain about how she dilikes windows
XP since she took delivery of her Dell Dimension 2350 series back in
June 2003.

I am wondering if it is posable to reformat her computer to windows
98se replaceing windows xp.

She is just not at all happy with windows XP and insists on going
back to windows 98se.

Her Dell Dimension 2350 series came with windows XP pre installed.

1.Can this system be reformated to windows98se?
2. If so, how difficult will it be to do so?

Thanks in advance for any help you might offer.
Greg

Since Microsoft support has ended for Windows 98, it would be best to
stay with Windows XP. Try the following suggestions:

Greg;
She will first need to determine if Windows 9x drivers are available
for her computer.
Many newer computers do not have Windows 9x drivers available for all
the components.
If drivers are not available, she best not change.

If drivers are available, she will need to buy a full version of
Windows 98 and then:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=314052

However since support has ended and no new patches will be made for
Windows 98, it is in her best interest to learn to use Windows XP.
Most that dislike Windows XP actually dislike the change rather than
the OS itself.
Once they give it a chance, most prefer Windows XP to any other OS.

Greetings --

If you want to "downgrade" WinXP to an earlier OS, you're certainly
entitled to do so, as long as you've purchased a legitimate copy of
that earlier OS. (Although I can't imagine why you'd want to.)

Before proceeding, though, you'd better take a few minutes to see
if there are any device drivers for the older OS available for the new
machine. There may not be, if the PC was specifically designed by its
manufacturer for WinXP. Also, check with the PC vendor to determine
whether or not replacing the pre-installed OS will void your warranty
and/or any service agreement(s), as normally the case.

To replace WinXP with an earlier OS, you'll have to boot from the
appropriate boot disk, format the hard drive, and install. There is
no supported downgrade path or technique.

As has been said:

1) It would invalidate the Warranty and any support she has purchased from
Dell.
2) It would be hard to find drivers for everything.
3) Windows 98 is now running out of support, both from Microsoft and
software companies.

Thank you all for you helpful sugestions.
Happy to say problems resolved!
Here is how I made the fix that made her quite happy!

Traded here systems,
Gave her one of my systems:
HP pavilion 800mhz 256mg windows ME
she is happy..in return I got her dell 1.8 gig 256 mg windows xp to
add to my collection.
Reformated both to out of the box status all working well
everyone happy.
Thanks again,
Greg
