Via this web site I was advised that text boxes could be used to place text into a margin to the left of line that has been numbered automatically

Is there any way this can be automated via autotext or macros, so save having to manually create, and place each time

any help will be much appreciate
thanks

Just about everything you can place in the page from the keyboard can be
saved as an autotext (or autocorrect) for ease of re-use. Text boxes are no
exception.

Hi JulieG

Alternatively, a frame can be used. Frame formatting can even be
stored in a paragraph style, which means that, once it has been setup,
adding a frame in the document margin is as easy as applying a style.

Also, text in frames is "seen" by Word for the purpose of table of
contents creation, if that's what you need. Simply modify an
appropriate heading style to include frame formatting.
