I am putting together a home network with a Linksys draft N router w/ a
shared hard drive. I would like to be able to access my outlook mailbox from
multiple computers on my network, hopefully by using the common hard drive.
Can this be done without a full server / microsoft exchange -based solution?
thanks

It can be done, but it's not recommended, and the .PST file cannot be
accessed by more than one copy of Outlook at a time. See
http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/share.htm for more information on the
sharing topic.

Thanks. Very helpful link and related info there. Do you say "not
recommended" because of the potential for file conflicts with multiple
computers attempting to access the file at the same time or for some other
reason?

thank you.

Outlook needs read/write access at all times to the pst file - if the
network drops just for a nano-second while Outlook is writing to the pst
file, it will get corrupted.
