recommend a good freeware Word Processing program that is compact, but able
to read and write in different extensions (ie word perfect 10, unicode text,

Just a suggestion that may help in the future. If you put REQ in the
subject with the type of proggie (I.E. 'REQ -- Compact Word Processor')
and explain in the body the details, you may get a bit faster results.
I made the same mistake and a kind soul enlightened me so I can now get
faster results.
